Death of former Andrews student, Elina Dorneles

We are sorry to let you know that one of our former students, Elina C. Dorneles, 24, died recently in Campinas, São Paulo, after suffering a cardiorespiratory arrest during a brief surgery.

Currently, Elina had been completing her final months of study at the Enginheiro Coelho campus of the Adventist University of Sao Paulo (Centro Universitário Adventista de São Paulo, Enginheiro Coelho—UNSAP-EC).

She was scheduled to graduate this December with a Translator and Interpreter degree, with a second degree in Letters.

Last year, Elina also spent a year at Andrews University as part of the Leaders of Tomorrow program—a longstanding collaboration between Andrews University and UNASP-EC that offers students who are studying at UNASP-EC the opportunity to spend one or two semesters of intensive English study on our Berrien Springs campus through our Center for Intensive English programs and, at times, other academic departments.

Elina is survived by her parents, Vanderlei and Lucienne Dorneles, and her brother, Weber.

We join with Elina’s family and friends as they mourn her loss and as we all look forward with the hope and promise of Revelation 22:20: “Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.”

Incidentally, Elina’s father shared details on his daughter’s death in writing—his Portuguese note also claimed this promise as he wrote: “Com muito pesar, mas também com esperança na ressurreição, informamos o falecimento (de nossa filha) Elina C. Dorneles.”

We invite you to share your own memories of Elina and condolences for her family in the space below. Please include your name with your message.
