School Counseling—MA

The Master of Arts in School Counseling prepares counselors to offer specialized services in elementary and secondary schools. It also provides counselors with the essential knowledge and skills to work collaboratively with principals, teachers, parents and community leaders to ensure that the students receive the support they need to become productive members of society. Counselors are also trained to address the developmental needs of at-risk and special needs students.

PROGRAM LENGTH

This 60-credit program can typically be completed by full-time students in two years.

APPLICATION DEADLINES

Prospective students must submit their applications by the dates listed below.

  • Fall (August–December): July 15
  • Spring (January–May): November 15
  • Summer Session 1 (May–June): April 1
  • Summer Session 2 (June–July): May 1
  • Summer Session 3 (July–August): June 1

POINTS OF DISTINCTION

  • Accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs (CACREP).
  • Accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
  • Based on a Christian worldview and philosophy of learning and teaching.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • A bachelors degree (or non-U.S. equivalent) from an accredited institution and a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.60 (applicants with lower GPA may be admitted upon consideration of the composite profile).
  • Two Recommendations from professionals such as advisors, major professors and employers.
  • Resume describing employment, research or special projects.
  • Statement of Purpose reflecting your philosophical perspective, personal, professional and academic goals, and reasons for seeking the graduate program.
  • TOEFL, IELTS or PTE (academic): Students whose language of education is not English must submit English proficiency test scores.
