Position summary
The Assistant Manager for the Howard Performing Arts Center is responsible to aid the HPAC Manager with scheduling, coordination of staff and volunteers, supervision, public relations, and management of operations for the Howard Performing Arts Center.

Duties and responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Coordinate all Volunteer activities including maintenance and revision of Volunteer Manual, scheduling of volunteers, communication with volunteers, planning of volunteer events and preparation of volunteer coordinators instructions for performances.
- Manage requirements for functions taking place in the Howard Center lobby including coordination of equipment, caterer facilitation, staffing and custodial needs
- Responsible for providing basic operational information to prospective Howard Center renters and preparation of all facility usage agreements with renters
- Manage Howard Center box office including software maintenance, program setup up, ticket printing and sales, appropriate reporting, bank deposits and staff management
- Communication with patrons and promotion of events through production of email newsletter
- Assist in maintaining and revising as needed procedure manual and rental contracts to guide operational needs, authorizations, approvals and clearances for all staff or personnel in the Howard Center, whether directly employed by the university or not.
- Assist with supervision of all major events, including the maintenance of the Howard Center performance standards and operating procedures. Ensure that requirements of director/performers have been met, including flow of stage hands, performers, props and equipment in a timely and efficient manner
- Assist with the planning, scheduling, coordination, and marketing of all events at the Howard Center – all concert series, University ensemble group performances, guest performers, facility renters, recitals, tours, classes and rehearsals. Assist with hospitality planning for artists including travel arrangements, on site hosting and other hospitality needs as required.
- Assist with sales of advertising space in program books and sponsorship opportunities
- Liaison with Department of Music
Supervisory responsibilities
The Assistant Manager of the Howard Performing Arts Center directly supervises 2-12 student employees as box office workers. The Assistant Manager also directly schedules and enlists volunteers to volunteer at the Howard Performing Arts Center. The Assistant Manager carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Howard Center policies, procedures and applicable laws,

Education and/or Experience - College degree preferred; two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills - The ability to articulate Howard Center procedures and policies, mission and vision, both written and oral, to customers is required. The ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, and to effectively present information and respond to questions from both internal and external customers is essential.
Mathematical and Computer Skills - Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite; ability to work with Excel spreadsheets for report preparation and bank deposits. While not required, experience with audio mixing preferred.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Technical competencies
Must be able to create and maintain multi-sheet spreadsheets. Must be able to learn new ticketing programs as needed. The ability to work with social media platforms is beneficial.

Building tours and demonstrations are also duties of this job requiring mobility throughout the building. During performances there is considerable walking and standing. There are also physical requirements including the setup of tables and chairs, moving of equipment on and off stage, dismantling and set up of risers and other physical tasks as necessitated by the various performances.
