Position summary

The faculty member will teach graduate-level courses in the Department of Theology and Christian Philosophy and hold a full-time appointment that involves pedagogy, service, and scholarship responsibilities in accordance with the mission and philosophy of the SDA Theological Seminary and Andrews University. This person will demonstrate competence in teaching, service, leadership, advising, research, and publications in Systematic Theology. The faculty member will serve on thesis and dissertation committees, departmental and university committees, maintain an active research agenda documented through publications and presentations, and provide service to the university and community.

Qualifications summary

An earned doctoral degree in theological studies, preferably with a cognate in Biblical Studies, and full professor rank. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching, extensive experience in chairing PhD dissertation committees, and a robust record of theological publications. Additionally, applicants should  possess pastoral ministry experience within the Adventist Church, a strong commitment to Seventh-day Adventist beliefs, and excellent interpersonal skills to effectively mentor students and collaborate with colleagues.


Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Duties and responsibilities

1. Teach a full load of courses in theological studies, with an emphasis in Ethics and Systematic Theology.

2. Advise and provide mentorship to master and doctoral students.

3. Provide advocacy and leadership in areas of Ethics, Theology, and Christian Philosophy to the Seminary and the Seventh-day Adventist Church (and beyond).

4. Participate in Seminary and University life and responsibilities.

5. Carry regular faculty responsibilities related to teaching, service, research, and publication, and administration.

Supervisory responsibilities

1. Work with administrative assistant.

2. Oversee graduate assistant.

Qualifications

An earned doctoral degree (PhD or ThD) in the area of theological studies, with an emphasis in Ethics and Systematic Theology.


Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.

Technical competencies as needed to successfully perform teaching responsibilities.

Interpersonal interactions

Strong interpersonal skills; the ability to collaborate well with colleagues; and a disposition conducive to interacting winsomely with students and staff.
