Position summary
The Assistant Manager of Member Services
provides assistance to the manager, whose leadership directs and administers all facets of the Andreasen Center for Wellness, including strategic planning and the daily operation of a wide variety of responsibilities including overseeing all front desk operations, customer service, supervision of the students who work at the front desk, payment processing for memberships and other services, facility rental coordination, group fitness programs.

General knowledge of health/fitness industry best practices, as well as proven proficient skills in business administration, organization, customer service, communications, marketing, and the supervision of student employees.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities

Directly supervises all student employees functioning as Front Desk Associates.

Provides direction and supervision for the instructional programs at the Center, which may include (but is not limited to) group fitness classes.

Supervises social media accounts, website and other media and is responsible for generating engaging content.

Assists with the creation and implementation of marketing initiatives.

Monitors income and transactions performed in member software.

Assists with cancellation and refund processes.

Performs customer service responsibilities when interacting with current, future or former members, or the community at large.

Assists in monitoring and responding to inquiries made by phone, email, on social media or in person.

Assists with supervision of the Andreasen Center for Wellness and it's facillity rental operations.

Contributes to instruction of group fitness classes.
Supervisory responsibilities
The Assistant Manager of Member Services carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Andrews University policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training professional and student staff, job description preparations and assignments, scheduling, directing work, appraising performance and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Directly supervises all front desk associate employees by scheduling, communications, networking, training, etc. Supervises and participates with staff in nurturing and holding students accountable to expectations including timeliness. attendance, shift responsibilities, dress code, safety protocols, etc.
The assistant manager also shares in a rotaional schedule to provide "manager on duty" coverage (with a team of others).
Qualifications

College degree or equivalent is required. Degree in health or fitness related field is preferred.

Experience and certification(s) in fields realted to health and fitness preferred.

Group or personal fitness instruction experience preferred.

Excellent English language and communication skills are required to be able to effectively interface with a wide variety of individuals and entities including administration, colleagues, members and the general public. These skills must include the ability to read, analyze and interpret, and the ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.

High level of communication skills (orally and written) in both personal and public venues.

Able to effectively inspire team members and ACW members to be the best they can be.

Basic mathematical skills are needed to perform assigned and misc duties.

Excellent abstract and concrete reasoning and problem solving skills.

The ability to prioritize responsibilities in a critical and timely fashion.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Technical competencies
Able to effectively learn and utilize computer software used by the university and the Andreasen Center for Wellness. Able to navigate and interact with different social media platforms.
Interpersonal interactions
- Highly tuned interpesonal skills and the ability to excel in working and interacting with individuals of all ages and from all different cultural and ethnic backgrounnd.
- Must be able to navigate challenging customer service interactions
- Must be able to work collaboratively and assist outside of regular job description when necessary.
Physical demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
At times the position demands longer workweeks, and responding to needs outside of the traditional work week hours.
Full use of all body senses and limbs of the body is required to listen and speak with members and staff, navigate the Center's physical space (including doors, stairs, and a variety of surfaces), move large and/or heavy pieces of equipment, assist in emergency situations, demonstrate exercises, etc.
The job also requires sharp mental skills and emotional balance.
Work environment
The work space is very large and can require quite a bit of walking to access all areas. It can also be quite noisy on the fitness floors, in the aquatics area, and during group classes. While the building is ADA accessible, it does contain stairways and doors that are not automatic.
