Willy has been serving the needs of Andrews University in the role of payroll assistant since 2005. His job has put him in contact with much of the Andrews community throughout the years, and his dedication and loyalty to serving others is always on display.</p> <p> In addition to his service to the employees of Andrews University, Willy&rsquo;s efforts are equally appreciated by his colleagues in the Office of Human Resources. Beverly Brown, associate director of Human Resources, affirms, &ldquo;Willy and I have both served in HR for almost the same amount of time, and it has been a pleasure to work with him all these years. I have appreciated his dedication to the department, his work, and helping all employees on campus&mdash;students, staff and faculty. She is always available to support me when I need guidance and makes my work experience easier and more enjoyable.&rdquo;</p> <p> These sentiments are echoed by Jennifer Burrill, staff senate chair and assistant vice president for Campus &amp; Student Life and Residence Life. Jenny says, &ldquo;Laura has served an integral role on the Staff Senate. She can always be counted on to pitch in and assist with any initiative, serving on ad hoc committees, helping with employee worship, creating our election ballots and other surveys, and volunteering for any need that arises. Her contributions are invaluable!&rdquo;</p> <p> Laura extends her expertise in digital data collection and analysis to serve both students and faculty. She has picked students up from the airport (in Chicago)! She takes food to coworkers who cannot cook for themselves. She opens her house to everyone and hosts Sabbath meals for faculty, staff and students. In short, Glynis Bradfield exemplifies excellence in service.</p> <p> Here are some of the things her colleagues have affirmed:</p> <p> &ldquo;Glynis&rsquo; first priority is her students. She is quick to respond and advocate on their behalf and does so with kindness.&rdquo;</p> <p> &ldquo;She is always willing to help and does so with her vast knowledge of the area she manages.&rdquo;</p> <p> &ldquo;She goes the extra mile to ensure that problems are resolved in a timely manner.&rdquo;</p> <p> Glynis is a rare person who is able to multitask successfully. She has many responsibilities, but she meets each one efficiently and compassionately. However, the true secret to Glynis&rsquo; dedication to serving others lies in her prayer life. Glynis and her husband, Martin, have served as missionaries in areas where the resources were scarce and the need was great. She has helped hundreds of international students navigate through difficult cultural and linguistic waters so that they can participate fully in the Andrews community. An English language learner herself, Lilia has built her pedagogical practice on compassion for her students and a dedication to best teaching practices.</p> <p> Lilia&rsquo;s colleagues have many wonderful things to say about her.</p> <p> &ldquo;Lilia demonstrates not only expert knowledge but also creativity in the use of technology, communication and teaching methods.&rdquo;</p> <p> &ldquo;(Lilia) goes above and beyond the syllabus to reach out to her students and make sure they understand the work to be able to succeed.&rdquo;</p> <p> &ldquo;She is Christ-centered, mission-minded and committed to making a difference for eternity.&rdquo;</p> <p> Both students and colleagues agree that Lilia Moncrieff has made a difference. As an Andrews University adjunct professor, she has taught at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.</p> <p> Arlyn has a mother&rsquo;s heart and knows how comprehensive student needs are. She will surprise them with snacks&mdash;and even meals&mdash;much to their delight and grateful appreciation. Invitations to her home for fellowship have strengthened the bonds among class members and with their teacher.</p> <p> Seminary student evaluations have rated Arlyn as an outstanding teacher. Students often comment on her excellence in teaching and the passion with which she communicates and connects with her audience. She employs innovative teaching methods, creating an interactive and stimulating learning environment. Her passion for accounting is infectious, captivating students' interest and encouraging active participation. Whether she&rsquo;s conducting complex analyses for the Adventist Global Church Survey, using data to understand how people with disabilities experience care and belonging in churches, or spotlighting the relationship between Adventist family rejection and LGBTQ+ depression and suicide rates, Shannon has made it her mission to shine a light on overlooked and disenfranchised communities.</p> <p> Shannon believes that data can tell stories and shape policies that improve people&rsquo;s lives. Students in her classes experience her passion for making a difference with data, sometimes expressing surprise when they understand and enjoy research for the first time. Shannon also partners with and mentors colleagues in moving their own research projects forward, often providing advice on research designs, data collection and statistical analyses.</p> <p> Shannon&rsquo;s drive to understand and address social injustices using data animates her teaching, service and research, ensuring that changing the world is all in a day&rsquo;s work. Your work serves as an inspiration to your colleagues and students at Andrews University.</p> Fri, 08 Mar 2024 11:48:52 +0000 Horn Excellence in Research: Felix Cortez http://www.andrews.edu/agenda/64897 <p> Felix Cortez, PhD, joined the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary&rsquo;s Department of New Testament in 2013, quickly establishing himself as a highly respected professor and voluminous writer. He is widely known for his expertise on the book of Hebrews and Christ&rsquo;s ministry in the heavenly sanctuary.</p> <p> In 1990, Felix began his pastoral ministry in the North Mexican Union&rsquo;s Central Conference. He eventually served as director of the Personal Ministries Department and, later, as director of youth ministries. He began his theological teaching ministry in 2000 at the Universidad de Montemorelos.</p> <p> Felix has authored two academic publications, several popular books in English and Spanish, 15 academic book chapters, and numerous academic and popular articles.
