Frequently Asked Question

Respondus LockDown Browser prevents other applications from being accessed by the student during an assessment, including the Windows or Mac "Calculator" tool. However, there are times when an instructor wants to allow students to use an online calculator during an assessment. A calculator option will appear on the toolbar for LockDown Browser if you enable it for the exam in the LockDown Browser Dashboard.

1. When creating a Quiz/Exam in LearningHub, in the settings page go to "Extra restrictions on attempts" and click "Show more".
2. In "Browser security" choose "Browser security should be set through the LockDown Browser Dashboard".
3. On the main course page turn editing on and in the right column click "Add a block" and choose "Respondus LockDown Browser".
4. Once that appears, click on "Dashboard" and then click on the orange box "Continue to LockDown Browser".
5. Click on the exam and choose "Require Respondus LockDown Browser..." then click on "Advanced Settings" and make your choices. Here you can "Enable Calculator on the toolbar".

When students take the exam the calculator icon appears in the browser for the student, they can click on the icon and use it during the exam.
