It was cold and windy during the evening of the flag football intramurals championship game. A large crowd gathered by the bleachers, bustling with anticipation as their peers and community members fought to win. The Hood Niqs and Three and Out were charged up with energy and adrenaline as they darted around the field. Cheers, shouts, and excitement could be heard from the audience as they cheered their friends along. After an exciting game with a final score of 6 to 19, the Hood Niqs walked away from the field with their intramural win.

Here is what some members of the crowd had to say about the game:

What brought you out to the game? How was your experience as a crowd member?

“I have a few friends on the winning team. I wanted a study break and to see my friends play! Being here is fun and relaxing.” Leah Posada (sophomore, nursing).

“Both teams played hard and went back and forth. They made it a fun game to watch. It’s nice to be able to get out of the dorm and chill, even if it’s cold. Shout out to my favorite rusher--you know who you are!” Jessica Grzybowski (senior, nutrition science & dietetics). “Honestly, this is the first time that I’ve been here, since it’s cold and I have work to do. But I came here to support my friends and to show my face—being the legend that I am—to help elevate the game. I’m having fun here in the audience and the team that I came to see is pushing out work! I’m getting what I came here for--a good game!” Darius Bridges (senior, marketing).

After the game, I interviewed a couple of the teams’ members to ask how they felt about their season and what their experiences have been like on their respective team.

Three and Out:

Great job playing hard! What can you say about your team’s efforts?

“It was a great camaraderie against the opposing team with all of our teammates. We worked hard and had fun for sure.” Josh Knowlton (senior, business administration). “We had some great times and plays. But it means nothing when there’s an injured player. Get better Solomon!” Josh Hong (senior, sociology).

The Hood Niqs:

What can you say about your win and your experience on the team?

“It’s amazing. We started off playing our freshman year, and we almost made it. Sophomore year we lost again. And now we won the championship. We might as well go to Disney World now. And we’re going to try to do it again next year.” Josiah Everett (sophomore, business administration). “We’re family. Everyone did their jobs, played their positions, and stepped up when they needed to. When it mattered most we came through.” Christian Van Schaik (junior, prephysical therapy).

“It meant a lot to play with my boys--my brothers. When I scored the touchdown and kept on running, it was especially great to win the victory as a team.” Bryn Charles, (senior, digital communication).
