MMC Staff Contributes
to the Library System
1. Name-Title Authority Cleanup for all music-related materials
When retroconversion of music materials was begun, copy cataloging
was done with little or no authority work. Gradually cleanup is taking
place, checking the major composers through the browse screens, using the
authority file on OCLC, making sure authority work is done with all new
cataloging, and fixing things as they come up.
2. Enhancing bibliographic records relating to music in main library
as well as MMC
MMC staff adds contents notes to items housed in the stacks as well
as general reference. Examples: adding countries covered in "National Anthems
of the World" found in general reference; song titles in the "Reader's
Digest Songbook" found in the stacks. The MMC has an ongoing project to
enhance records without added entries for scores and sound recordings.
3. SDA Obituary Index database maintenance
This index maintained through the Seventh-day Adventist Periodical
Index produced by the James White Library, is heavily used as it is linked
to several geneaology web pages. The MMC helps in data cleanup.
4. Special projects for The Media Center and the Architecture branch
library
MMC student assistants have helped with moving projects for the Media
Center and data entry projects for the Architecture Resource Center.
5. Organize Brown Bag Concert Series in the lobby of the main library
Staff organizes and performs in brown bag concerts for Creative Arts
Week, 96 and 97, the Schubert Festival 97.

Doing Two Things at Once
During Slow Times
Keep an eye on the desk, and accomplish special projects.
1. Staff must exercise judgment as to when and where to work on complex
projects & must have a mindset to be able to drop anything for patron
needs.
2. Several work areas and work stations are provided in close proximity
to the small public area, including a good-sized circulation desk with
terminal and typewriter.
3. Multiple sessions of the OPAC are possible to facilitate quickly
toggling from projects to circulation to searching.
4. OCLC stations are located in the workroom with visual contact with
the circulation desk.
