Critiques are not summaries. It should generally begin
with a short summary of at most 25%-35% of the minimum length
of the critique, followed by a critical analysis of the assigned
reading. This critical analysis should examine such things as
in the following list. This list is not to be considered an exhaustive
list, nor a list to follow in order for the review.
- Topic: Relevant? Valuable?
- Title: Appropriate?
- Introduction and background: Sufficient?
- Statement of Purpose: Explicit? Fulfilled?
- Structure: Organized? Balanced?
- Theoretical construction: Logical? Defined?
- Applications and examples: Practical? Illustrative? Sufficient?
- Conclusion: Satisfactory? Supported?
- Style: Clear? Helpful?
- Bibliography: Adequate?
- Length: Too long? Too short? Just right?
- Information content: Wordy Needless detail? Concise?
- Assumptions: Reasonable or not? Why?
- Audience: Who is the target audience? Is this appropriate?

- Overall merit: Good? Interesting? Worth recommending to
someone else?
