1986 Student Study Referenced in Botany Article

As 150th anniversary celebrations in Three Oaks are being planned, the community’s namesake trees have been the focus of some botanical “detective work.”

During a recent meeting of the Harbor Country Rotary Club at Elm Street Bistro in Three Oaks, Dr. Robert Tatina, a botanist and Chikaming Open Lands Board member, talked about his research to discover what variety of oak tree the village’s original “three oaks” were, to figure out where they once stood and when they ceased to exist.

...Helping narrow the list further were several “tree censuses” taken in the area.

A 1986 study of plant species in Robinson Woods near Lakeside conducted by an Andrews University student listed three types of oaks — red, white and pin.
