“Interactive Learning In and Out of the Classroom,” with Herb Fynewever, assistant professor of chemical education, Western Michigan University. All too often our students rush to take notes during class but postpone thinking to the night before an exam. I am interested in getting students engaged inside an outside of the classroom. By requiring students to reveal what they are thinking and by giving them timely feedback on their thinking we can make learning happen as we adjust our teaching. Several examples will be given including web-based homework, peer instruction, and interactive testing strategies.
