Wally Pollee Memorial Concert

   Sun, March 22, 2009 @ 04:00 pm - 05:30 pm
    Howard Performing Arts Center
The Twin Cities Organ Concerts Series and the Andrews University Department of Music will present a concert in honor of Wally Pollee, a resident of Stevensville from 1953 until his death in 2008. A native of Germany, Wally was a music lover, promoting the performance of music, particularly that composed before 1750, all his life and all over the Michiana area.

The concert, performed by many of his musician friends, will feature Bach's Concerto for 4 Harpsichords and Strings, an organ concerto by Handel, a sonata for organ and strings by Mozart and other works. Pollee donated one of the harpsichords used during this concert to the University. The repertoire was selected to represent some of Wally's favorite composers and their works. Nearly all involve ensemble playing, as one of Wally's greatest passions was to make music with others. Some of his instruments and music will be used in the concert. In addition to the four harpsichords, a chamber organ from Kalamazoo and a piano will be featured, in addition to the wide array of historical and modern string and wind instruments used by the Early Music Ensemble and the Chamber Orchestra.

Performers include: Linda Mack (AU music librarian), Asta LaBianca (AU Department of English), Jim Kraus (minister of music, United Methodist Church, St. Joseph), Paul Flyger (AU alum), Isabel Jackson (St. Joseph church musician), organists/harpsichordists/ pianists; and the Andrews University Early Music Ensemble & Chamber Orchestra.

Cost: $5 donations gratefully accepted. Contact Linda Mack at 471-3114 for further info.
