Vera Dunigan Passes Away
July 21, 1920-June 22, 2015
Vera Vivian Clayton Jones Dunigan passed away on June 22, 2015 at White Oaks Assisted Living in Lawton. She was born in Brice, Missouri, the second daughter of William H. and Mollie Massie Clayton. Her sisters, Zelma Medley Pumphrey, Wilma Atkinson, and Nadine Clayton, all preceded her in death. Vera graduated from Lebanon High School in Missouri, Missouri State College, and Andrews University in Michigan. Her teaching career spanned 34 years in the states of Missouri, Michigan, and Florida. She often said there was never a day she didn't want to go to work! She was married to Shelvey Jones of Windyville, for 22 years until his untimely death at age 49. Her second marriage to Bill Dunigan continued into their retirement to Florida for 27 years until his death. Vera was active in the Seventh-day Adventist Church wherever she lived. Traveling was fun for Vera. Trips to the Pacific NW, MExico, Hawaii, and England were highlights. The last several years she appreciated the activities at White Oaks Assisted Living and the "pretty little girls who wait on us hand and foot!" Her greatest joy was her friends and family. She is mourned by her six children: Barbara (Chuck) Randall - a member of the Andrews University Board of Trustees - Ronald (Teresa) Jones, Deryl (Shirley Jones), Vivian (Steve) Scott, Randy (Cindy) Jones, and Cathie (Rand) Dunigan Heazlitt. She is also loved by 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law, uncle, nephews, nieces, and many friends. Her life will be celebrated and memories shared at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 27, in the Paw Paw (Michigan) Seventh-day Adventist Church, and also at 4 p.m. Monday, June 29, at the Lebanon (Missouri) Seventh-day Adventist Church, with interment at 3 p.m. in Mount Rose Memorial Park in Lebanon.
