Lakeland Introduces Get Fit in the Mitt Site

| Posted on July 20, 2015

(ST. JOSEPH) –  Lakeland Health has expanded its “Get Fit in the Mitt” program with a new website where community members can find tips and resources from local wellness experts on how to live a healthier lifestyle. The new website, www.getfitinthemitt.com, provides content updated weekly on topics such as healthy eating, fitness tips, car seat safety, and emotional wellness.

“Get Fit in the Mitt was created by Lakeland to inspire healthy living here in southwest Michigan,” said Terri Rushlow, Supervisor, Community Health and Wellness, Lakeland Health. “It’s part of our mission to enhance the health of our friends and neighbors – not just in our hospitals, but out in the community.”

The website includes an online video series featuring local, affordable fitness activities. In the most recent video, the Get Fit in the Mitt team explores the health benefits of bicycling and meets Howard Kingsley, a Stevensville resident who credits bicycling for saving his life after he suffered major cardiac issues. Other videos featured on the site highlight jazzercise, hula-hooping, and stand-up paddleboarding. To help community members identify activities featured in Get Fit in the Mitt videos, special Get Fit in the Mitt signs are on display at local organizations that have partnered with the program.

Community members are encouraged to contact Get Fit in the Mitt with wellness questions for health experts or suggestions for future topics. To learn more, visit www.getfitinthemitt.com
