The Michigan Maritime Museum is excited to welcome Mackinaw Watercraft’s acclaimed designer and boat builder Allen Deming will be teaching two classes in August at the Padnos Boat Shed on the campus of the Michigan Maritime Museum. On Wednesday, August 5th, Deming will teach his techniques for building laminated canoe and kayak paddles.  The following day he will present “You Can Build a Wooden Boat” a seminar style class that covers the basics on the two most popular techniques for home built wood boat building.

Deming, who has taught hundreds of paddlers, and avid crafts persons how to make boats and paddles, is excited to strengthen his ties to the Michigan Maritime Museum.  “Today’s building techniques allow people with even minimal experience to build beautiful, lightweight, and low maintenance boats and paddles” says Deming.  These two classes are a great way for new and experienced persons to pick up new information and skill sets.

Registration for the 2-hour paddle-making seminar is $40. This seminar runs from 3pm-5pm August 5th. The August 6th boat building seminar runs from 10am to 12:30pm and the registration fee is $30.  Registration for one or both classes can be made through the Michigan Maritime Museum by calling 269-637-8078.
