There are two ways in which you can help AFIA make this run a successful event. ANDREWS UNIVERSITY AFIA CLUB SPONSORS 2nd 5K RICE RUN:

ON THE RUN AGAIN FOR THE MRSA SURVIVORS NETWORK

BERRIEN SPRINGS, Mich. – The 2014 Rice Run included 80 participants, raising $500 for the chosen non-profit organization. After a successful 2014 Rice Run, Andrews Filipino International Association (AFIA) has once again partnered with the MRSA Survivors Network for the 2015 Rice Run. The Rice Run is a 5K run/walk aiming to raise awareness of MRSA by encouraging the community to get involved in physical activity.

The 2015 5K Rice Run will take place on September 20 at 8:30 a.m. at Margaret B. Upton Arboretum in St. Joseph, Michigan. Register at www.andrews.edu/go/afia. General registration is $25; student registration is $20. Participants can run or walk.

AFIA promotes Filipino culture, values, and traditions to the students of the campus and the people of the community. The club aims to create a diverse network of connections and relationships, bringing together anyone who may be interested in Filipino culture through a variety of events and programs. In addition to providing a memorable experience through fun events, AFIA also strives to inspire the spirit of love and support by raising awareness of struggles that some in the community may be facing. With over 250 members, AFIA is one of the largest student-led clubs on the campus of Andrews University.

For the second year, AFIA has collaborated with the MRSA Survivors Network in hopes of continuing to generate awareness and funds for the non-profit organization. MRSA is an acronym for Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus, a type of bacterium causing serious infections, prompting more deaths than HIV. The MRSA Survivors Network is the global leader and voice in awareness, prevention, support and advocacy of MRSA. To learn more about the organization, visit www.mrsasurvivors.org.

“The support for last year’s Rice Run exceeded our expectations as a club,” says Ryan Jarvis, 2015-16 president of AFIA. “This year, we want to continue strengthening the relationships between our fellow students and our community, as well as the spirit of love and support.
