Storyteller and artist Joe Castillo will be performing “The Face of Christ” at the Howard Performing Arts Center on Thursday, Oct. 22, at 11:30 a.m. The performance is free and open to the public.
Castillo is the bestselling author, artist, storyteller and finalist from the NBC reality show “America’s Got Talent” who has developed a new way of telling stories with his hands in the sand. SandStory is a unique way of storytelling that uses sand art, a light table and music as a medium. Sand scattered on a light box is formed and reformed into ever changing shapes and images that tell visually powerful stories. Set to music they inspire, challenge and motivate in a captivating way. Joe Castillo is one of the first and certainly the premier “SandStory” artist in the world today!
Castillo has been seen live in all seven continents, over 43 countries and in 35 different languages. He has performed for world leaders including President Carter, President Bush, President Clinton, Hillary Rodham Clinton, President Juan Manuel Santos, Pope Francis and King Abdullah.
In 2011, Castillo was asked to close the TEDActive Conference with his performance entitled “The Rediscovery of Wonder!“ In that same year, he performed at TEDGlobal in Edinburgh, Scotland. “Turning the Tide” was created by PBS to document Castillo’s revolutionary sand animation.
