Herald-Palladium Reports on Sit-Up Record Attempt

They came close, but there were not enough sitter-uppers Wednesday at Andrews University to break the world record.

More than 520 people gathered in the Johnson Gymnasium to try to break the record for the most people doing sit-ups over the same minute. But organizers couldn't get enough people to do them correctly to qualify for "The Guiness Book of World Records."

The record is 503, set in England last year.

The first attempt Wednesday had 489 people doing the sit-ups correctly over 1 minute 15 seconds. The second try involved 496.

For participants, it was all about having fun.
