Bio

Mark Ficks

This diverse artist brings rock, blues, & country influences to the stage with him each time he performs, as well as an energy and lyrical style that engages his audience. Mark's music comes from the heart and is rooted in his Southern Indiana and Kentucky upbringing. Family is a common theme in his lyrics, and he draws inspiration from his own experiences and from others. Because of this, listeners can easily relate to the stories and messages in his music.

Mark’s dad (Bill "Smooth-Sticks" Ficks) will be guest-starring on the drums for a few tunes during this concert. Bill turns 70 the week of the show, and it's pretty impressive how "young" he is! Also one of Mark’s kids might pop up on the stage and play some songs with the band. Bill and his wife have 5 kiddos that love playing music now, and he tries to involve them as much as possible. Their home is a very loud place!

For this Independence Day Celebration, Dennis Varo will be joining Mark Ficks on bass guitar and backing vocals, with Tony Borden on the drums. As far as the music they’ll be playing, it'll be all over the place from Bruno Mars to Bob Seger, Pharrell, Jimmy Buffett, Guns & Roses, Prince, Kenny Chesney and anything else you can think of. Mark always jokes that if someone sees one of his shows and is asked "What kind of music does that Mark Ficks guy play?" his hope is that the answer is "I don't know!" because he truly plays everything. Mark will be running around between the piano and electric and acoustic guitars and having a blast. Mark believes the audience will be able to tell very clearly how much fun the band has on stage. They don't take themselves too seriously, and they laugh a lot, especially at their mistakes.

In addition to performing the songs that he has penned, Mark has a library of hundreds of cover tunes, and can be found filling dance floors, and helping venues to sell a lot of drinks and food! Whether playing a solo acoustic show or with his full band ("The Significant Others"), Mark's versatile set lists include upbeat popular songs of all different styles & eras.
