Symphony Orchestra Concert
Andrews ensemble directed by Meriel Lora
Thu, September 22, 2016 @ 07:00 pm - 09:00 pm
The Andrews University Symphony Orchestra will be performing this upcoming Thursday, Sept. 22, in their first concert of the academic year. Both University students and members from the Berrien Springs community form the orchestra, which is under the direction of Claudio Gonzalez, but will be directed for this performance by graduate conducting student Meriel Lora, as Gonzalez is on sabbatical.
The orchestra regularly has concerts in Berrien Springs, but has also performed in the Great Lakes region and even internationally, such as in Austria, Costa Rica, France, Germany, Italy and the Phillipines. Pieces that the orchestra performs are selected from a variety of musical eras; next Thursday’s concert will feature Jean Sibelius’ “Finlandia,” Op. 26; Edvard Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Op. 46; and Franz Schubert’s “Unfinished Symphony” No. 8 in B minor, D. 759.
The concert starts at 7:00 p.m. in the Howard Performing Arts Center. Admission is free of charge.
