Fire & Light
Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra & Lake Michigan Youth Orchestra
Andrews University welcomes the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra to the Howard Performing Arts Center stage for “Fire & Light” on Sunday, March 19, at 4 p.m.
This special concert will showcase two thematically related short pieces by renowned Canadian composer John Estacio as the backdrop to a spectacular video depicting the origin and formation of the awe-inspiring light display we call the aurora borealis.
The film, produced and edited by Jose Francisco Salgado, features NASA’s latest cutting-edge images of the sun, astronaut photography of the auroras and the filmmaker’s photography shot on location in Yellowknife, Canada.
Music performances will include Mendelssohn’s “Hebrides Overture” as well as Brahms’ “Symphony No. 2 in D Major.” The Lake Michigan Youth Orchestra will join the SMSO for the Mendelssohn piece.
General admission: $20–$37; Students: $5. To purchase tickets, visit howard.andrews.edu or call the box office at 269-471-3560.
This event is sponsored by The Herald Palladium and WNIT.
