Transformation of Life & Art

Community Announcements | Posted on August 1, 2017

A common theme of change and transformation ties three separate art exhibitions in each the galleries at the Box Factory for the Arts together. Alchemy will be displayed in the Whitlow Gallery. This group show is a  two year project involving fifty Kalamazoo artists and writers. Their focus is on three alchemical areas—alchemy as precursor to modern chemistry, Jung’s treatise on the trans-formative self, and the four alchemical colors: nigredo, albedo, citrinitas, and rubedo, each of which speaks to a distinct phase of creativity. The Williams Gallery will feature the artwork of Kunga Nyima Drotos. His inspiration comes from the practice of meditation in his daily life. Kunga’s paintings show how everything in life is impermanent and interdependent. Our Riverwalk Gallery will display drawings and paintings by local artist Clement Teo. His work ranges from tight black and white drawings to organic paintings. Transformations will be in the galleries at the Box Factory for the Arts from Friday, August 11, 2017 to Saturday, September 23, 2017. Please join us for the Opening Reception on Friday, August 11, 2017 from 5:30pm - 7:30pm and an Alchemy Reading on September 16, 2017.
