The following message was sent from President Andrea Luxton to faculty and staff on August 18, 2017.

Dear campus community,

I am sad to bring news to you this evening of the passing of former president W. Richard Lesher. Residing in Loma Linda at the time of his death earlier today, Dr. Lesher served as president of Andrews University from 1984-1994. Dr. Lesher was a consummate Christian gentleman, highly respected for his authentic faith, professionalism and calm, committed leadership of Andrews University. As we enter the Sabbath hours, we ask that you join us in prayers of comfort for the Lesher family and those close to them in this time of sadness.
