Young Artists Concert
Featuring Andrews University Music Majors
On Saturday, Jan. 27, at 8 p.m., students from the Andrews University Department of Music will perform in the annual Young Artists Concert, held in the Howard Performing Arts Center.
Claudio Gonzalez, professor of music and conductor of the University Symphony Orchestra and Sinfonietta, describes the concert as “the annual celebration of the musical talent of Andrews University.”
In preparation for this concert, music majors prepare a repertoire to present in front of adjudicators. In the past, contest adjudicators were special guests from other institutions, but now the entire Department of Music faculty forms the panel. The competition process is not designed to cause conflict between students but rather to help them face performance standards and develop the skills necessary to be proficient musicians and singers. After completing this process, multiple students are selected to take part in the concert, resulting in a variety of musical styles and performers.
This year’s selected young artists are Donn LaTour (violin), Grant Steinweg (cello), Ellen Yoo (piano), Jeremy Ahn (piano) and Zachary Randolph (tenor).
Admission to this event is free, and no tickets are required. For additional information, contact the Howard Box Office at 269-471-3560. For a full season schedule of events at the Howard Performing Arts Center, visit howard.andrews.edu.
