"Fun & (Olympic) Games" Winter Concert

On Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, at 8 p.m., the Andrews University Wind Symphony will present its winter concert, "Fun & (Olympic) Games," at the Howard Performing Arts Center on the campus of Andrews University. The Wind Symphony has performed in England, France, Spain, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Canada and throughout the United States and maintains a significant travel schedule throughout the Great Lakes area.

In the midst of a frigid Michigan winter, the Wind Symphony, under the direction of Byron Graves, will celebrate the 2018 Winter Olympics taking place soon in PyeongChang, South Korea. The concert will feature John Williams' famous "Summon the Heroes," written for the 100th anniversary of the modern Olympic Games.

A variety of other music will also be highlighted, including music from Sir Arthur Sullivan's whimsical ballet "Pineapple Poll," Robert Sheldon's musical vision of the Manhattan skyline, "Metroplex," a rousing rendition of the Civil War era "Battle Cry of Freedom," John Philip Sousa's arrangement of the Percy Grainger gem "Country Gardens," and Eric Whitacre's wild romp "Noisy Wheels of Joy." In addition, the Wind Symphony will partner with Jonathan Korzun and the Southwestern Michigan College Brass Band, who will be featured in the first half of the program.
