Wind Symphony: "Christmas Around the World"

On Saturday, Nov. 17, at 8 p.m., the Andrews University Wind Symphony will present “Christmas Around the World” in the Howard Performing Arts Center.

The Andrews University Wind Symphony will perform Christmas music from a variety of countries and cultures, including Russia, Israel, Spain, the Appalachian region of the United States, Canada, England and medieval Europe. Selections include “Russian Christmas Music” by Alfred Reed, “Whisper to Their Souls” by Samuel Hazo, “Carol of the Bells” arranged by Sean O’Loughlin, “Dreidel Dance” by Robert Thurston, “Christmas Carol Fantasy” by Takashi Hoshide, “A Medieval Christmas” by Philip Sparke, “Jesus, Jesus Rest Your Head,” arranged by Tom Wallace, “Spanish Dance” arranged by Andrew Wainwright and “C’est Noel” by Andre Jutras.

In addition to the Wind Symphony, two chamber ensembles will perform: the Andrews University Woodwind Quintet, playing Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride,” and the Andrews University Chamber Winds, performing Charles Gounod’s “Petite Symphonie.” Two graduate conductors, Giovanni Corrodus and Megan Mocca, will also be featured.

Conducted by Byron Graves, the Andrews University Wind Symphony maintains a significant travel schedule throughout the Great Lakes area and seeks to provide high quality music programs and concerts representative of Adventist education and Andrews University. The Wind Symphony has performed in England, France, Spain, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Canada and throughout the United States.
