Maurice McAfee serves as the pastor of the New Bethel Baptist Church in Sodus Township, MI, following in the footsteps of his grandfather Milton McAfee, who led the congregation for 44 years. He also serves as president of the Twin Cities chapter of the NAACP. The McAfee family has been in the forefront of the spiritual life of Southwest Michigan, and in the fight for civil rights, since arriving from the Deep South around 1950.
