Andrews Transitions to Distance Education
Beginning Monday, March 30, and for the remainder of spring semester for its Berrien Springs students
Andrews University will switch to distance education beginning Monday, March 30, and for the remainder of spring semester for its Berrien Springs students. The move comes in response to state guidelines for higher education institutions in the state of Michigan as COVID-19 spreads throughout the United States. Other universities across the country are also making similar decisions.
As the University transitions to distance delivery of its courses, students have been encouraged, where possible, to return to their place of permanent residence by the end of spring break, March 22. Exceptions will be made for students who live outside of North America and for students involved in internships or individual instruction (such as the University’s aviation program). For those students who do remain in campus housing, meals and campus services will remain available on a limited basis. Currently, Andrews University plans to resume in-person course instruction at Andrews University for the summer semester.
Many campus events are also canceled in connection with this change, including the International Food Fair, Passion Play and Gymnics Home Show originally scheduled for upcoming weeks. The following events at the Howard Performing Arts Center are canceled, as well:
- Kettering Praise Orchestra: Celtic Celebration—March 14, 2020, 8 p.m.
- Howard Center Presents: “Teshuah” by James Lee III—March 28, 2020, 8:30 p.m.
- Howard Center Presents: The Jazz Ambassadors of the United States Army—March 29, 2020, 4 p.m.
- Howard Center Presents: “Adriana Perera’s Crossing Point. Songs of an Immigrant”—April 4, 2020, 8:30 p.m.
Additionally, the University will postpone its spring graduation programs, originally scheduled for May 1–3. The new date will be announced as soon as the situation allows and to assure good lead time for students’ individual plans and arrangements.
Most Andrews University employees, including the faculty who will now deliver their courses through online tools and resources, will continue to fulfill their work assignments at Andrews University.
Additional decisions and significant changes at Andrews University will continue to be shared as appropriate. For these updates, along with a collection of significant information and resources on COVID-19, visit andrews.edu/go/covid19.
