Death of Edward "Ed" J. Hinman

Edward "Ed" J. Hinman passed away on Dec. 30, 2020. He was the father of Brad Hinman, assistant professor of counselor education in the Department of Graduate Psychology & Counseling.

Brad wrote the following in remembrance of his father.

My father passed away around 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, after a long, slow battle with dementia. He was 91 and outlived his wife of 54 years, my mother, who died in 2015. He is survived by his younger brother (my uncle Don) and his seven children. I’m the youngest. Although his death was very gradual and my mom’s was very sudden, I don’t recommend either way to lose a parent. We are postponing the memorial service until late spring (hopefully) when it can be held outdoors, which was my dad’s favorite place to be. He had been a logger and a builder for many years while I was growing up, and later became a real estate broker. He was an avid farmer his whole life.

To add to the mix of emotions, we’d all been unable to visit him for the last nine months of his life due to virus and his living in a nursing home. He was surrounded by the most caring, patient and competent staff I’ve ever seen, though.

I am the only Seventh-day Adventist in my family, and my parents never went to church the entire time I knew them. They were both humble and had servant hearts. It’s odd to be mourning when the entire planet is celebrating, but my father was tired and his work on earth is done.
