Wind Symphony Spring Concert

"Tempered Steel" is the theme for Saturday, April 23, at 8:30 p.m. in the Howard Center

On Saturday, April 23, at 8:30 p.m., the Andrews University Wind Symphony, under the direction of Byron Graves, will perform its spring concert, titled “Tempered Steel.” The concert, which will be held in honor of WAUS members, features a number of classical works and transcriptions for band.

The Wind Symphony will open with a performance of “March of the Belgian Paratroopers,” composed by Pierre Leemans. Next, they will perform “Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral” by Richard Wagner, transcribed by Calliet, followed by “Andante from Horn Concerto” by Giliere, arranged by Cheseaux. Prior to the intermission, they will play Philip Sparke’s “Sunrise at Angel’s Gate” and Johann de Meij’s “Symphony No. 1: The Lord of the Rings.”

Following the intermission, the Wind Symphony will perform selections from “William Byrd Suite” by Gordon Jacob and “Tempered Steel” by Charles Rochester. This piece will be dedicated to those impacted by the pandemic. The Wind Symphony will conclude the program with selections from “Lincolnshire Posy” by Percy Grainger, “Prayer for Ukraine” by Mykola Lysenko, arranged by Patrick Dunnigan, and “Promendade & The Greate Gate of Kiev” by Mussorgsky, transcribed by Leidzen.
