Welcome to Season III, Episode 8, of Environmental Fridays ... it is personal.

Join us this upcoming Friday, Nov. 4, 2022, for Environmental Fridays, Episode 8, at 9:30 a.m. EST to listen and learn about "Environmental Impact of Sargassum and Potential Solutions" by ocean professional, fisheries management specialist, oceanpreneur, and science communicator Shelly-Ann Cox, PhD, of Blue Shell Production.

Guest Speaker Bio
Shelly-Ann Cox is an experienced ocean professional, mother of a 3-year-old aquatoddler and the founder and CEO of the boutique consultancy firm Blue Shell Productions, which specializes in blue economy consulting, event planning and management, and science communication. This firm is built on over a decade of experience in the Caribbean in developing sustainable development solutions and interventions that are relevant and adapted to the specific circumstances of the region.

Cox is currently engaged as coordinator and co-editor of the Subregional Sargassum Outlook Bulletin for the eastern Caribbean. She has also co-authored several sargassum related publications and technical reports including the recently published article "Challenges of Turning the Sargassum Crisis into Gold," the "UNEP-CEP 2021 Sargassum White Paper" and the "Sargassum Uses Guide."

She obtained a PhD in natural resource management and has a BSc in environment and natural resource management with marine biology, both from the University of the West Indies.

Guest Speaker Bio
Clare Morrall is professor in the Department of Biology, Ecology and Conservation in the School of Arts and Sciences at St. George’s University (SGU), Grenada. She is a marine scientist with a keen interest in environmental conservation, sustainable development and climate change. Since joining SGU in 2001, Morrall has taught marine science courses and run a range of research projects. Her current research interests include microplastics in marine environments, marine turtles, pelagic sargassum and reef health.

Morrall serves as president of NGO Ocean Spirits and is interim director of the Association of Marine Laboratories of the Caribbean.
