Monica Cervantes began her work at Andrews just after Thanksgiving in 2018. From that moment on, she has embraced her responsibilities and the faculty and students with Christ-like love and devotion. Faculty and students’ corresponding love, respect and gratitude for Monica is best expressed in their own words:
- It's not an overstatement to say that our department would not function without Monica. She is caring, considerate, efficient and overall fantastic.
- Monica Cervantes consistently demonstrates the "how can I help?" attitude that Christ extended to each person He interacted with.
- Her Christ-like character is constantly on display as she serves the department and our students, even on the most difficult days and in the most challenging situations.
- She takes excellent care of our department and is a tireless advocate for students, parents, co-workers and community members.
- She is extremely efficient and clearly has a heart for service. While many departments still sat in the dark (during the COVID pandemic), Monica showed up to work every day, making sure that students (faculty or staff) coming to the department would see someone there.
- She is almost literally the wind beneath the department’s wings. Her commitment to the success of the department and University goes beyond being a vocational endeavor. It is all service to God.
The space and time limitations allotted make it impossible to do justice to any summary of Monica’s total contribution and service to Andrews University. However, I think it is clear that Monica Cervantes is the living example of what the Excellence in Service Award represents. So, congratulations, Monica, on receiving this esteemed honor. You certainly deserve it!
