Local business, community and governmental leaders recently gained new insights into how to better serve their customers and constituents through the 2023 Leadership Training Workshops, which drew a packed crowd to Michigan Works, 499 W. Main St., Benton Harbor. The four workshops were intended to offer ways of enhancing leadership in a relaxed, low-key setting, with special interactive exercises, to get people thinking about the featured topic. The City of Benton Harbor co-sponsored the workshops with the Great Lakes Community Action Partnership (GLCAP), Rural Community Action Partnership (RCAP), and Benton Harbor Team Solutions.

Session One looked at leadership styles, and personality types, while Session Two focused on conflict management, decision-making, and governance models. Building on that knowledge, participants then learned about communications best practices, with an emphasis on customer outreach and service policies, followed by an in-depth look at DEI (diversity, equity, inclusion) practices, led by Andrews University professor Carole Hunt. Other featured presenters included GLCAP Program Development Specialist Deb Martin and Outreach Specialist Brianna Dennis.
