While Scott Moncrieff’s areas of specialization include 19th-century British literature, poetry and literary criticism—decidedly not the Renaissance—he can nonetheless be characterized as a modern Renaissance man. Scott frequently employs his talents in service of the Andrews University community, whether as a member of the Cardinal Number, a jazz ensemble in which he plays bass, as the sponsor of the student poetry club, as a wellness ambassador, or as the faculty sponsor for The Student Movement. These wide-ranging engagements illustrate why he is such a valued member of both the Andrews community and the Department of English.

Scott is responsible for shaping scores of student writers, and he is an invested colleague and collaborator. His love of and enthusiasm for learning equally inform his pedagogy. An accomplished individual, he has published poetry as well as research on teaching and learning. He continuously tests out new readings, tries fresh assignments and employs innovative methodologies to engage his students.

Andrews University is deeply blessed by Scott’s 35 years of service. Undoubtedly, he embodies the best of the University’s mission. Colleague Kylene Cave articulates it beautifully: “Scott has a heart for the Lord that is daily demonstrated by how he encourages others and makes them feel seen and cared for.”
