Description:

Hearsight is a start-up company based in South Bend, Indiana, that is developing cutting-edge technology to bring real-time captioning using augmented reality glasses for people who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. Their product provides real-time transcription of spoken words on screen or in your field of view, tailored to your preference.

Hearsight was inspired by a simple, powerful idea: bringing subtitles off the screen and into real life.  Danny, a co-founder of Hearsight, witnessed a close friend struggle with lip-reading during the pandemic due to widespread mask-wearing. While watching a movie with subtitles, Danny thought, "Why can't we bring these subtitles into real life?"

Danny met co-founder Riley Ellingsen in a technology entrepreneurship program at the University of Notre Dame, where they were called to be forces for good in the world. Here, Hearsight was born.

Since then, Hearsight has built a community of d/Deaf and hard-of-hearing supporters, partners, testers and users who have helped inform and refine the technology. Hearsight is committed to breaking down communication barriers and creating a world where everyone can engage confidently.

Co-curricular credit is available for undergraduate students.
