Andrews Honors Princella Tobias
The first Andrews University Presidential Recognition of Altruistic Service was given to Princella Tobias, publisher of the Benton Spirit Community Newspaper. The award was specifically for her environmental leadership and work regarding the lead pipes issues in Benton Harbor.

Ms. Tobias is an original World Changer. Ms. Tobias is the first African American and first female newspaper publisher and owner in Southwest Michigan.
Over the years, Tobias has worked voluntarily with Andrews University faculty, staff, and students. This has included numerous stories and articles (all pro bono) featuring Andrews University in the Benton Spirit; providing employment for Andrews University students; and collaborating with both Andrews University professors and with students on community projects (asthma, clean water, and air pollution).
She has also been active in Andrews University’s Change Day and was an original community member on Andrews University’s Community Engagement Council. She was recognized in 2023 by the diversity offices at Lake Michigan College and Andrews University as an influential community woman in leadership.
