Andrews!!!! Welcome back to another weekly column. Did you find yourself looking for something to stream? Maybe your friends wanted to see a movie on Saturday night, but didn’t know what to watch? I hope you popped a look at this column and checked out one of last week’s hits, maybe “Woman King'' or “See How They Run.” Did you take a chance to stream Blackpink’s new album? Whether you did or not, we are back and better than ever with an all new list of new releases. And, TRUST ME, there were a lot of new releases to sort through this week, so take a moment to check out something on this list!

Movies

Do Revenge
This one is a must-watch. Usually I tend to steer clear of Netflix original releases unless I desperately want to waste time, but this film has a fantastic plot, incredible costuming, and tons of callbacks to your favorite teen movies. This film stars Camila Mendes of “Riverdale” fame and Maya Hawke of “Stranger Things” fame and includes one of the best-executed plot twists I’ve seen in a long time. You can also catch a bunch more familiar faces in character roles sprinkled throughout the film! Definitely take two hours to watch this and I doubt you will regret it! Already released; Netflix.

Don't Worry Darling
Whew chile! If you haven’t had a chance to hear about the swirl of drama surrounding “Don’t Worry Darling” make sure to check out last week’s article Film and a Fling by Jonathon Woolford-Hunt (senior, communications), where the Student Movement condenses all the Twittering into an easy-read with all the facts. Of course, due to the drama, this one is a must-see! Starring Florence Pugh and Harry Styles, directed by Olivia Wilde, critics say it might be a waste of your time, but I had to put it on the list anyway. Take a chance and watch it, even if it’s just for the culture. September 23; in theaters.

Lou
Y’all know I can’t give you guys a Currently… column without including some action. This new release for Netflix features Allison Janney and Jurnee Smollet in leading roles and tells the story of a woman working to save a kidnapping victim in the middle of a storm. Oh, and apparently there’s a dog involved. Weirdly enough, I recently had a dream that this movie was really good? I’ll keep you guys updated, but I think my subconscious is telling you guys to check it out. September 23; Netflix.

TV Shows

Reboot
Boasting an impressive comedy cast with names like Keegan-Michael Key, Johnny Knoxville, and Judy Greer, this Hulu original created by the same mind who thought up the smash hit “Modern Family” tells the tale of a popular sitcom being rebooted. The show follows the relationships of a cast forced to come back together and work once again, years after their original show’s success. Episodes drop weekly. Every Tuesday; Hulu.

Abbott Elementary
Fresh off the tails of a very successful Emmy run (including wins for Best Comedy Writing and Best Supporting Actress), Abbott Elementary dropped the very first episode of season 2 on Hulu & ABC.com this week. The show stars Quinta Brunson, who creates and writes the series, and spotlights an area of society that doesn’t get much media coverage: underfunded public schools, particularly in Black communities. Check out my Signal Boost from last year for even more reasons to watch. Every Wednesday; Hulu.

Andor
It’s time you guys knew the truth: I’m a huge Star Wars fan. And furthermore, one of my favorite films is the classic standalone “Rogue One.” Andor follows one of the main characters, Cassian Andor, thief-turned-Rebel spy, in the five years preceding the film. Expect to see the grittier edge of the Star Wars universe and maybe even some teary moments. “Rogue One” was one of the darkest-toned Star Wars projects to date, and we can safely say this show will be more of the same. Every Wednesday, Disney+.

Great British Baking Show
Personally, I’m a staunch member of the Great British Baking Show fan club. It’s one of the kindest cooking competitions out there, like seriously, I cry every season. I don’t understand how, but somehow this show has found a way to be interesting, competitive, and still heartwarming. The new season brings back the famed Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith as judges and the dynamic duo of Matt Smith and Noel Fielding as the show’s comedic hosts. For me, this show is my zen. It centers me and takes the edge off of how overwhelming my life can get. (Can a show really do that???) Either way, please promise me you’ll check it out. Every Tuesday, Netflix.

Music

"COPINGMECHANISM"; Willow
You might already be a fan of Willow Smith’s music, from the practically ancient “Whip My Hair” to her more recent collaboration with THE ANXIETY and Tyler Cole: “Meet Me At Our Spot.” However, her fifth studio album already promises more pop punk and new collabs. Check out the single “Hover Like a Goddess” ahead of her album release to see what’s in store. Releases September 23.

"Girl of My Dreams"; FLETCHER
Yes, I missed this huge release last week. In case y’all aren’t caught up on the TikTok drama, FLETCHER’s new album features one of the lead singles “Becky’s So Hot,” a song about how she thinks her ex’s new girlfriend is very attractive. The album is chock-full of pop anthems, from the self-love celebration in the title single “Girl of My Dreams” to the intimate vulnerability in “Conversations.” Already Out.

"Sad Romance"; CKay
Maybe you remember the viral hit “Love Nwantiti” from TikTok. Well, CKay, a Nigerian singer-songwriter signed to Warner Music South Africa, releases his debut album this week! If you love the laid-back Afrobeats he features in “Love Nwantiti,” be sure to give his album a stream. Releases September 23.

"Unholy"; Sam Smith and Kim Petras
Speaking of TikTok, Kim Petras and Sam Smith have been teasing this single for a while now on the app. You’ve probably heard the viral hook from the chorus, and the full song’s release has been long-awaited by fans of Sam Smith’s catchy hits. The song promises majestic harmony, a catchy hook, and impressive vocals from the two artists. Releases September 22.
