Is this hot new trend really here to stay? Fashion forward Andrews students noted that for this spring, typical sweatshirt and sweatpant outfits are “out,” and that steel helmets, protective elbow pieces, and heavy duty chainmail are officially “in.” This classic medieval look dating back to the Middle Ages can easily be dressed up or down for walks to classes and trips to the Gazebo with the addition of a decorative cape or shield, although students are advised against holding jousting tournaments on campus grounds due to handbook rules. Not only is this new look sure to catch the eye of potential suitors, it also has the capacity to lower carbon emissions! Several faculty members staying hip with the kids have decided to make the switch from cars to horses, making morning commutes several times more environmentally friendly. Will you be choosing to participate in the newest look of the season yet?
“I think it’s great that Andrews is returning to traditional values and embracing these past trends. Personally for me, a good pair of gauntlets have never really gone out of style, but it’s nice to see that other people are finally catching on.” (Bailey Young, senior, accounting)
“If someone is strong enough to wear a suit of armor to class, they're definitely strong enough to pick me up.” (Chrystal Porter, social work, freshman)
“1424 is the new 2024 is my motto.” (Yejin Seo, senior, art)
“I’m worried about the sweat. Sometimes I can’t even wear jeans because it gets too uncomfortable in the warmer months. I don’t want the people in my class to think I’m stinky, but I like that with a full suit of armor people don’t really have to perceive me or get my germs, so it’s pretty disease safe I would say.” (Torrey Joo, psychology, senior)
“Iconic. I will absolutely be participating. I'm really happy that this aesthetic is making a comeback, but I do think it might get a little noisy with all the clinking. Love to see it though.” (Madison Vath, English, junior)
“I think everyone has the right to wear what they want to school, but it is a little bit annoying. Last week, I was taking a test and the person next to me was making so much noise with their suit that I couldn’t focus. It’s very distracting and disruptive to my academics.” (Nora Martin, English, senior)
