Roy Gaton

Roy Gaton is a pastor, chaplain and psychotherapist, currently serving as an associate professor of pastoral care and counseling at the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University. Prior to joining the Seminary faculty, he served as director of pastoral care for Baptist Health South Florida, senior pastor at New Community Church, and as a professional counselor in private practice in Miami, Florida. In addition, Gaton held teaching appointments at Loma Linda University, Loma Linda University Medical School and Florida International University Medical School.

Gaton is a licensed professional counselor, certified pastoral counselor, marriage & family counselor, and certified bereavement facilitator and educator. He also has specialized training in clinical ministry (clinical pastoral education), chemical dependency treatment, spiritual formation, life coaching, and marriage and family counseling.

He received a BA with double majors in theology and Spanish literature, and a Master of Divinity from Andrews University, and a DMin in pastoral care and counseling from the Claremont School of Theology. Gaton completed a clinical residency in clinical pastoral education at AdventHealth in Orlando, Florida, is a Diplomate Supervisor in psychotherapy with the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy, a board certified clinical chaplain and an ordained minister.
