Full plate living intervention for weight loss and reversing diabetes.

Obesity is identified as the leading risk factor for diabetes and cardiovascular disease (Sowers, 2003). Scientific evidence suggests that a fiber-rich, plant-based diet is associated with decreasing the risk for heart disease, which is the leading cause of death in those with type 2 diabetes (Qian et al, 2019 & Patel et al, 2017 & Kahleova 2017). The Full Plate Living is a high- fiber way of eating that focusses on filling at least 75% of the plate at every meal with whole, unprocessed fiber foods that include fruits, vegetables, beans, and cooked whole grains. The purpose of this pilot study is to assess the efficacy of the Full Plate living intervention for weight loss and reduce the risk for diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Full plate diet program consists of eight 50-minute videos sessions that participants will view in small groups hosted either in the lifestyle medicine clinic or in their homes. Diabetes reversal program will be offered both in person and virtually.
