Analysis of Language Errors in Speakers who are Bilingual under Quiet and Background Noise Conditions
Bruna A. Barbosa
This study compared monolingual and bilingual English speakers ability to repeat sentences from the AzBio Sentence Test in quiet conditions and background noise environments. There were sixty participants from Andrews University—45 bilingual speakers (15 from three language groups: Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish) and 15 monolingual English speakers. A language analysis compared lexical and grammatical errors across each group. The presence of background noise increased the amount of lexical and grammatical errors made by bilingual speakers. Results of this study and conclusions drawn about the errors across language groups will be disseminated.
