Biography

Born in Quezon City, Philippines, Judy Fe Jose-Larong pursued a career in Chemistry education and research. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from De La Salle University in 2003, supported by the Philippine Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute Scholarship. Immediately following graduation, she commenced her teaching journey as a Chemistry lab instructor at the same university, where she taught essential lab techniques in General Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Biochemistry to students.

In 2009, Judy Fe obtained her Master's degree in Chemistry with a specialization in Chemical Education and Biochemistry. She concurrently served as a University lecturer at De La Salle University and a College instructor at Manila Adventist Colleges, enriching the educational experience of nursing and allied health students through courses in General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Biochemistry.

In December 2012, Judy Fe completed her PhD in Chemistry from Hokkaido University in Sapporo, Japan, supported by the Japanese Government Scholarship for Chemistry and Materials Science. Her doctoral research focused on synthesizing and characterizing six novel materials derived from tetramethylporphyrin derivatives through advanced molecular and crystal design techniques. She employed a range of analytical methods including spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, transport measurements, molecular orbital calculation, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Her dissertation is entitled: “Design, Structure and Physical Properties of Molecular Solids Based on Porphyrin Complexes”. Throughout her academic journey, Judy Fe presented her research findings at international conferences and contributed to respected scientific journals such as Structural Chemistry and the Bulletin of Chemical Society of Japan.

Beyond her contributions as a chemist, Judy Fe is a dedicated educator with formal teacher training from the Philippine Normal University and holds teaching licenses in both the Philippines and Canada. In 2012, she relocated with her husband to Toronto, where they resided for 12 years. Prior to joining Andrews University, Judy Fe taught for five years at Kingsway College in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. She and her husband Jonathan are proud parents of their daughter, Hadassah.
