INSTRUCTOR: Kathy Berglund, PT, DSc, ATC, OCS, FAAOMPT

The primary objective of this course is to explain why patients who have had pain for greater than 4-6 months often have trouble getting better and to make sense of those patients coming in with what we consider “bizarre” symptoms that also don’t tend to get better. These patients have actual changes in neural physiology that make it difficult for their pain experience to “go away”. In addition the abnormal  neural physiology provides an explanation for the bizarre symptoms they experience. By the end of this 2 day course, the participant should understand the abnormal neural physiology responsible for these patient’s symptoms and will be able to perform an evidenced based objective assessment of these patients. In addition, multiple evidenced based treatment strategies will be taught and practiced in lab based activities. Think this only applies to spine patients? Research has shown that this type of phenomenon can occur in other pathologies such as knee OA! This course will assist any clinician wishing to  understand and treat pain more effectively!
