Our country, as well as our church, is divided on LGBTQ+ rights. Many Christians in our churches and our schools have a lot of misconceptions, prejudices and other barriers that prevent any outreach toward the LGBTQ+ population. There is a massive need for honest, open conversations about the needs of this community. There is a considerable need for the church to rise up and reach this group of people with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
The North American Division put out a powerful tool for helping families, leaders and others relate to the LGBTQ+ population in a compassionate, biblically faithful way. The booklet, "Guiding Families of LGBT+ Loved Ones: Adventist Edition," was available for free from Advent Source HERE. The Adventist edition of the book is currently out of stock, but more information can be found HERE.
This material may not necessarily be a community outreach event itself, but it can be a vital tool to educate churches and schools on how to respectfully interact with the world around them. For example, it could be used as a curriculum for small group discussions, topics for more extensive training seminars, or given to interested individuals, similar to other tracts. The ultimate goal is to show Jesus' love to this very marginalized group of people.
