Rules
I am looking forward to teaching high school. I believe that high school is an important transitional time from adolescence to adulthood. Teachers should cultivate environments which push their students to more and more responibility. I believe that rules should therefore reflect the level of responsibility you expect from students. Have broad, clear, and obvious, moral standards. When the need arises for more rules explain the reasoning for limited freedom to the problematic students.
- You are an adult, act like an adult
- Your bladder belongs to you... take care of it without bothering me.
- Your homework is your homework... take care of it without interrupting me.
- Class time is here for you, waste it at your own expense.
- My job is to teach, your job is to learn.
- Respect everyone you come in contact with.
- Be honest
- Listen to your teacher
- Don't interrupt people
- My word is final
Leadership: Motivating and Inspiring Learning
I am a natural leader. I often assume the role to better facilitate group projects. My strengths as a leader are organic practical ideas, strong delegation, and immediacy. My leadership has matured and grown through the past years. I have had a lot of practice with leadership in the classroom . I started teaching in 2008 as a teacher's assistant. I have taught labs for: general physics, physics for scientists and engineers, astronomy, and myth busting. When I was in the islands, I taught all of the high school math and physics courses at Ebeye SDA school. All this classroom experience has given me first-hand experience with leadership.
I think that a large part of leadership is finding correct motivation for your students. A simple model for learning would be the transition of data to wisdom:
For the last two transitions to happen, teachers need to properly motivate and inspire their students. If students are inspired they will quickly retain information and make it personal knowledge. Successful teachers are leaders who know how to properly inspire and motivate their students in order to insure maximum learning and understanding. Here is a good example of how one should motivate:
Classroom Management
Teachers are responsible for monitoring the classroom and cultivating a supportive learning environment. Miss-managed classrooms will slowly default to a defensive learning system.
