Benefits Overview

Andrews University seeks to provide benefits for employees to serve a variety of needs. Below is a brief overview of benefits for eligible employees. For an outline of eligibility and the complete description of each benefit, click on the particular benefit.
 

Medical/Dental/Vision Insurance The University offers a health insurance plan which includes Medical Insurance, Dental Insurance, Vision Benefits, and a Prescription Drug Program. PhysiciansCare (ASR Corporation) is our third-party administrator for our employee health care benefits.
Health Opt-out Option Employees who are eligible for health insurance benefits but who do not wish to be covered by the health insurance plan, may elect the opt-out option.
Flex Spending Accounts Reduce your taxable income and reimburse yourself for health-care and dependent day-care expenses through flex-spending accounts.
Retirement All benefit-eligible embloyees receive a 5% basic employer contribution plus employer matching contribution of up to 3%.
Basic Life Insurance You are automatically covered under the Group Term Life Insurance for $100,000 at no cost to you once you have met eligibility requirements. You may also buy Supplemental Life and AD&D.
Disability Insurance All regular full-time employees shall be eligible to participate in the Employee Disability Income Plan.
Workers' Compensation All employees are covered by workers' compensation insurance. Any injury which occurs in connection with assigned work must be reported immediately to your supervisor.
Educational Benefits Dependent Tuition Assistance - If you are a full time regular employee and have dependent children who are less than 24 years of age and attending school, the policy applies to you.
Employee/Spouse Tuition Assistance - Four free credits each semester are available to qualified employees/spouse in a regularly scheduled class.
Moving Benefits When an employee is requested by the University to move to a new location, he/she may be eligible for moving and related travel expense reimbursement in harmony with the appropriate policy.
Holidays The University recognizes nine paid holidays, two of which are a day-and-a-half for a total of ten days annually. 
Vacation Two weeks for the first 4 years, three weeks for the next 5 years, four weeks beginning the tenth year of service/experience.
Funeral Leave Benefit eligible employees will be allowed to take time off due to the death of a family member
Leave of Absence

Leaves of absence will be extended for the following University policies:

  • Family and Medical Leave (FMLA)
  • Personal
  • Temporary Disability Leave
Dining Service For regular employees working at least 20hours a week or more,  you are entitled to a 25% discount on Dining Services meals.
Accidental Death & Dismemberment This benefit pays your beneficiary a death benefit if you die due to a covered accident while you are insured. It also pays you a benefit for certain accidental losses.
Supplemental Life Insurance This program is designed as a supplemental coverage to the basic Survivors Benefit Plan (Group Term Life Insurance) provided by the University.
Accident Plan Benefits that pay for covered accidents while you are on the road to recovery.
Short-Term Disability Benefits can pay for a percentage of your monthly salary if you are injured or ill off-the-job and cannot work due to a disability or covered pregnancy.
Critical Illness Benefits can pay a lump sum benefit at the diagnosis of a covered illness.
Whole Life Can supplement term life insurance or as a stand-alone product with cash value built value over time.
Adoption Benefit Full-time employees may be granted non-taxable assistance for qualified adoption-related expenses.
Auto Insurance Reduced rates for automobile insurance have been arranged for University employees.
Andreasen Center for Wellness Eligible employees receive a free membership.
Library Books and materials may be borrowed upon presentation of a University identification card.
Parking Parking is available to all University employees. A parking pass may be obtained at the University Safety Department.
